[spoken before the song, "It is Finished"]
The Eternal One sat sharpening His arrow, fingering its point to make sure the penetration would be complete. He looked down the shaft of the great arrow, regretting its power but sure of its accuracy, then carefully lifted the Great Bow of Wrath, meticulously crafted for this single moment. Bending the bow, He slipped the string over the end and felt the tension spring to life with deadly purpose. Then, with the arrow fitted firmly on the string, He turned toward His beloved earth with great determination. “The curse must be destroyed” He repeated to Himself. Unflinching, He raised the bow with arrow poised. Then, He heard a voice: “Father, if it be Your will, let this cup pass from me. Nevertheless, not my will but Yours be done”. He groaned and took sight, as a single great tear fell upon the arrow. . A swelling of countless voices roared in His ears. “Crucify him” They called. Then He released the shaft and sent it speeding towards the mark. He knew the arrow’s precision. As He slowly turned away, He heard His son’s fading voice behind Him: “Father why have You forsaken me?” The Great Mission was accomplished.
